23/03: Monday morning coming down.

So, the weekends show at Kirstenbosch turned out to be a big success. We performed a few songs with the United Kayelitsha Mombasa and the limited rehearsal times we had seemed have paid off. After the show we went back to the Bellville and had an after party at my house. We drank, laughed and cultivated some acute hangovers for our own miserable enjoyment.
Back at the studio things are going well. We had a bit of a slow week last week - the powers that be decided to shit on our hard drive and subsequently we were whipped into a frenzy of panic and confusion. To add injury to insult, Theo's colon exploded and he had to get an operation. Theo didn't take it lying down. He asked for some morphine and was back in the studio the very next day - spaced out and bewildered nonetheless. He also bought new backup system and a backup system backing up that backup system. So Bellville studios is now Crash proof. Right now, we're watching Laudo bust some lead guitar tracks. He's milking the guitar and making it sound like a whale during mating season.
OK then.

26/02

We're taking it track for track. Ripping the songs apart and making them listenable. Theo knows alot! I'm so glad we came here. It's gonna kick ass! Snake's drum sound is wikkid! He recorded 'Set Ourselves Up' today. Definitely a single! Whoo-hoo!

27/02

Friday already! Not much gonna be done today. We playing ramfest later. Just structuring some songs, Snake bangs a little on the kit and now we're off to the devil's stomping ground! Who would've thought it's just outside of worcester?

02/03

Ramfest was wild. That's an understatement. This whole week we'll just be working on structure, finishing the lyrics and laying the basic drumtracks down. Theo is making Snake keep it simple! Rock 'n Roll was never complicated!

03/03

Thank Crouse for airconditioning! Bellville studios is just so convenient, right around the corner, fancy name, the list goes on and on. Gotta love it. Tracking drums and taking names.

04/03

We've never actually practiced these tracks! So Snake is just winging it! Boosh!

05/03 & 06/03

Writing. Writing. Writing. Writing. Writing. Writing. Doef. Doef. Doef. Doef. Doef. Doef. Doef. Lunch! Writing. Writing. Writing Etc.

08/03

Sunday we use an empty booth and practice with the United Khayakitsha Mambazo for the upcoming show at Kirstenbosch.

09/03 & 10/03

The last two days we plan to spend focusing on the mighty Snakehead. He's delivered some of the kiffest-sounding drum parts this side of coolville.

11/03 to 13/03

Laudo takes up the guitar. Theo gives us another lesson on being the Mainest guy around and there was much rejoicing.

16/03

We decide to spend a day or two finishing the last lyrical loose ends. This gets on like a house on fire. We're finished! Now if we could just get to recording it all.

17/03

Theo gives us a call and brags about his newly installed backup system with spinning wheels and flashing lights and who knows what else. The sunny Cape Town weather inspires us to write another song! What a beauty.

Official Day 1 : "Jesus Crouse"

This is the first official Diary entry for the recording of our second full length album.
We thought it would be a nice gesture to inform you of what goes on behind the studio walls. In studio preproduction actually started about 10 days ago but today is our first official day of recording. What this means is that 10 days ago we brought our demo tracks to Bellville studios for Theo Crouse to rip apart and help us reassemble them as songs. I started playing basic drums to the new song structures as Theo was churning them out and now it seems that my drums are done - Theo likes a very straight and simple approach to drums. Less is more or something like that.
The other guys spent the first half of the day finding the best guitar and bass tones for the recording. Theo made the most of his lunch break and him and his wife went to the doctor to catch a sonar glimpse of his child to be.
Right now, Hunter is tracking some guitar parts and the rest of us are lounging around, making crude jokes and smoking cigarettes with glorious conviction.
All our previous material was recorded away from home at B# Studios in Boksburg, so for us its refreshing to be working at home for a change.
OK we'll keep you posted and get some photos on this Motherlicka.
